How to convert to and from .jpg using Microsoft Paint.
The fastest way to convert your images is using MS Paint. Microsoft Paint does not let you compress them or do too much too them, and if you wish to convert a .jpg to a .gif or .png and have a transparent background or use animation (animated gif), MS Paint is not the right tool for that job.
How To Do It:
- Open Microsoft Paint. You can find it on your Start Menu, under accessories...
- Select the image you wish to convert...
- Save it as the filetype you wish by selecting the correct file extension from the drop-down menu.
That's it!
What MS Paint looks like
The lastest version of MS paint will look like this. This is the Windows Vista interface. As you can see, it is a very simple to use program with minimal functionality and tools.
If you have an older version it may look like the screenshot below. This is the Windows XP interface, very similar to the VIsta interface - simple to use, and easy to learn.MS Paint Cannot Do What I Need...
When your needs become more advanced, it is time to upgrade your graphic manipulation program. The best step up from MS Paint is the FREE application, "The Gimp".
Why Convert BMP to JPG?
Bitmaps (.bmp files) are huge files and thus are very cumbersome to work with whether on a website or in emails. When you convert these images to a JPG or GIF, they are much smaller and when you use a robust program such as the GIMP, you can tweak the size and quality very easily.
